General Music 6-8

Mr. Ryan Deems

What is General Music?

General music is an exploration of music for students who have chosen not to join the MMS band program. Students will have the opportunity to explore music through performance on classroom instruments such as recorders, xylophones, world percussion instruments, and ukulele. While performing, students will explore and complete music composition exercises to synthesize all of their prior knowledge into a finalized product. Students will also explore a wide-range of music history topics, ranging from Bach and  Beethoven to Biggie Smalls and Katy Perry. Finally, students will also learn about studio recording and 21st century professions in the music industry.

About Mr. Deems

I was born and raised in Clarksburg. I graduated from Liberty High in 2007 and attended Glenville State College. I graduated from GSC in 2011 with my Bachelor's degree in Music Education. Before coming to MMS in 2014, I taught high school band/choir at Westside High School in Clear Fork, West Virginia for three years. Outside of school, I like to compose music, watch sports, read, travel, and spend time with my wonderful wife, family and dogs, Max and Jake
