Battle of the Books
Three Harrison County Title 1 schools participated in the first annual "America's Battle of the Books" competition. The three participating schools were Lumberport Elementary, Nutter Fort Intermediate, and North View Elementary. Students at participating schools read books from a list established by the state Battle of the Books committee. There are typically 25-30 books for competition. The teams then competed in quiz-bowl-style tournament to test their knowledge of these books. Through the fun and excitement of a team competition, students improve their reading skills and develop a life-long love of reading. Teams were awarded points for correct title and author's first and last name. This program offers our students a great enrichment program focused on fostering a love of reading. We would like to congratulate all teams for an amazing event. North View Elementary was crowned 2017 Harrison County Schools Battle of the Books champions for both grades 3/4 and grade 5 teams. We would like to congratulate North View Elementary's team members for their teamwork and perseverance.

NVE is collecting metal pop tabs. These tabs are given to the Ronald McDonald House in Morgantown. The tabs are recycled for money that is used to buy supplies for the Ronald McDonald House. The house is a place where families of sick children can stay for just a few dollars per night when their child is a patient at WVU Children's Hospital at Ruby Memorial. Please turn in pop tabs to Mr. Spatafore.
