August/September 2016

Welcome back to Simpson!  I hope everyone is ready for a wonderful school year!

This year I am beginning a new program entitled Little Peacemakers.  It will be taught to grades 2 through 5.  This program teaches children Mediation Skills which can be used to solve conflict.  While every student in these classes will learn mediation skills, two students in each classroom will be selected as a Mediator.  Hopefully, this will decrease classroom, cafeteria conflicts. It can also be used at home.  Your child will be able to teach you Mediation skills.  These skills will help your child throughout life.

1st 9 Weeks Guidance Lessons will focus on the following:

Transitioning back to school

Friendships

Expectations for school

Personal space

Behavior

Conflict resolution

This School Counselor uses various resources to not only  present our students with the lessons, but to include them as part of the lessons in order for learning to impact them, and  to help them to remember what the have learned.

These resources include:  Books, Interactive DVDs, "SMART" Interactive Guidance, Role play, Plays, Puppets and other props.

Alert...Alert!  Some of our students have confessed to staying up too late!  Some are sneaking to play video games.  Others do not have a set bedtime.  They are coming to school sleepy, and not focused.  Please help by setting a bedtime, and sticking to it as best you can.  Thank you!
