Collision Repair Technology

Overview:  A student enrolled in the collision repair technology will be instructed in all areas of automotive body repair. This will be accomplished through classroom discussion and practical application in shop activities. Students are prepared for I-CAR testing and certification.

  • Surface Prep & Refinishing
  • Non-Structural Analysis & Damage Repair

  • Custom Finishing Processes
  • Advanced Refinishing
  • Mechanical and Electrical Components

Length of the Course:  This two years, four semester I-CAR certified program. Students will earn a certificate in each I-CAR course given throughout the year.


Opportunities in the Field:  Employment of collision repair technicians is expected to increase. The need for body technicians will also increase as new light-weight automotive designs are more prone to complex damage. Opportunities will increase for persons with formal training in this field.


Additional Opportunities:  This will open opportunities for estimating in a shop or as an adjustor for insurance companies.

Accessibility:  Open to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors or adults who have a high school diploma, GED, or are working toward their GED.


Affordable Cost:  United Technical Center offers low-cost seat fees for adult students. Area high school students can qualify for a 13th year tuition waiver.


Articulation Agreement:  Cooperative agreements with institutions throughout the nation allow for students to earn college credit in some areas. These agreements give students the opportunity to form a 2 + 2 educational experience, in which students complete the first two years while in high school and enter an associate degree
program the following two years. EDGE Credit is also available for career and technical courses.


Career Planning:  UTC offers opportunities for career counseling and assistance in job placement.


Developmental Education:  UTC offers refresher courses in reading, writing, and math prior to enrollment or while taking technical classes.


Organizations:  Skills USA and National Technical Honor Society(NTHS) are sponsered by UTC for the advancement and recognition of individual student skills and academics.


Location:  UTC is located on Rt. 19 North of Clarksburg. Take the West Pike Street exit off Rt. 50 West of Clarksburg and travel approximately 2 miles toward Shinnston.
