Drafting / CAD Technology

Overview:  The drafting program at United Technical Center consists of four major areas of study and includes training and procedures in computer aided drafting (CAD) technique.

Units of Study (1st Year):

  • Fundamentals in Drafting
  • Drafting Technique
  • Architectural Drafting
  • Mechanical Drafting

Units of Study (2nd Year):

  • Introduction to CAD
  • Blueprint Reading
  • Civil Drafting
  • Advanced CAD

Length of the Course:  This one-year or two-year course is designed to be taken as a program by students in their sophomore, junior, or senior year of high school. Thirteenth year students and adults will be admitted on a space available basis.

Who Should Take Drafting:  With the growing demand of engineers in all fields of study, having a drafting background would be beneficial not only to those planning to further their education in an engineering field, but also to those seeking jobs in any industrial area.

Industrial growth and increasingly complex design problems associated with new products and manufacturing will further increase the demand for Drafting/CAD operators.

Accessibility:  Open to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors or adults who have a high school diploma, GED, or are working toward their GED.

Articulation Agreement:  Cooperative agreements with institutions throughout the nation allow for students to earn college credits in some areas. These agreements give students the opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school. UTC also participates in the EDGE Program.

Career Planning:  UTC offers opportunities for career counseling and assistance in job placement.

Developmental Education:  UTC offers refresher courses in reading, writing, and math prior to enrollment or while taking technical classes.

Organizations:  Skills USA and National Technical Honor Society(NTHS) are sponsered by UTC for the advancement and recognition of individual student skills and academics.

Location:  UTC is located on Rt. 19 North of Clarksburg. Take the West Pike Street exit off Rt. 50 West of Clarksburg and travel approximately 2 miles toward Shinnston.
