Overview: A student enrolled in the Health Occupations Science Technology program will be able to experience the health field through simulated classroom experience and an externship. This program gives the student an excellent background for many medical careers, such as nursing, physical therapy, dietary, and veterinary science.

Length of the Course: This is a one year program.
Who Should Take HOST: With the growing demand of the health care industry, having a health occupations background would be beneficial not only to those planning to further their education in the nursing, but also to those seeking to further their education in the medical field.
Opportunities in the Field: Following completion of the program and successful completion of the State Nurse Aide Certification Test, the student may work in hospitals, nursing home, home health agencies, outpatient clinic, or physicians offices as a Certified Nursing Assistant. The employment and continuing education opportunities in the medical field are excellent and are expected to continue to grow.
Examples of Externship Sites Include:
Articulation Agreement: Cooperative agreements with West Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing programs allow for students, who have completed Health Occupations Science Technology and passed the Nursing Assistant Certification Exam, to be given credit for some of the practical nursing course work and related clinical hours; once accepted into a practical nursing program.

Organizations: Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) and National Technical Honor Society(NTHS) are sponsered by UTC for the advancement and recognition of individual student skills and academics.
Location: UTC is located on Rt. 19 North of Clarksburg. Take the West Pike Street exit off Rt. 50 West of Clarksburg and travel approximately 2 miles toward Shinnston.
