Medical Assisting - Allied Services

Overview:  Medical Assisting is an allied health profession whose practitioners function as members of the health care delivery team and perform administrative and clinical procedures.

Units of Instruction:

  • 0711.31 & 0711.41 Medical Assistant Orientation
  • 0715.31 & 0715.41 Administrative Procedures
  • 0733 Medical Assistant Clinical Procedures
  • 0737 Medical Assistant Lab & Diagnostic Procedures

Length of the Course:  The Medical Assistant course is 1 year in length.

Who Should Take Medical Assisting:  The Medical Assisting course would be beneficial to anyone interested in any aspect of the Health Care Field including Nursing, Lab Skills, or Phlebotomy.

Opportunities in the Field:  Employment of Medical Assistants is expected to increase rapidly throughout 2015 as the health service industry expands. An increase in the number of group practices, clinics, and other health care facilities will require a high proportion of multi-skilled, flexible medical assistants who can handle both clinical and clerical duties.

College Credits Possible:

  • 2 hours Phlebotomy Credit - Pierpont/Fairmont
  • State College to qualified students
  • EDGE Credit - Mountain State University
