Choir Class Announcements

*** Winter Choir Concert is December 14th at 6:00 pm in the WIMS Auditorium. All choir students are expected to attend and participate. Students should wear nice clothes (dresses, skirts, pant, collered shirts), and a "winter accent" (hats, scarves, etc.)

Class Description: This class is designed to introduce students to a varied repertoire of musical styles, cultures, and historical periods, while cultivating proper singing techniques.


Grading: Students will receive a participation grade daily that will be averaged for a weekly grade. They will also have periodic quizzes on music knowledge. Students will never be graded on talent or singing ability, but rather on their level of engagement and knowledge of the music we work on in class. Grading scale is as follows: Class participation 60%, Concert attendance 30%, Homework/ Quizzes 10%. All grades can be found on LiveGrades.


Expectations: Students are expected to:

  1. Come in quietly and get music and pencil ready.
  2. Sit up straight with good singing posture.
  3. Do not talk when someone else is talking or singing.
  4. Mark corrections in your music with your pencil.
  5. No gum allowed in choir. (You may bring a water bottle)
  6. Absolutely no cell phones in choir.
  7. Try your best every day!

Rewards for following expectaions:

  1. Increased self esteem
  2. New friends with same interests
  3. A feeling of accomplishment
  4. A sense of belonging
  5. Development of skills to last a lifetime

Consequences for not following expectations:

  1. Warning
  2. Signature in agenda book
  3. Blue referral form to the office
  4. Three referrals to the office within a nine week period will result in a conference and possible transfer out of choir.

Winter Concert is scheduled for Thursday December 14th at 6:00 pm . Attendance is expected and graded. Concert attire for this concert will be nice dress clothes (dresses/ skirts/ dress pants for girls, dress pants and preferably shirts with a collar for boys) and a “winter accent” such as a hat or scarf.


Music is a fun, integral part of everyday life. We will have a wonderful year!
