Big Elm's Mystery Reader program is back up and running for the 2021-2022 school year.
Community members participate by providing clues for the students to use to figure out who will be reading to them that day. Then, the students use the book the mystery reader shares to review various story elements.
So far this year, the students have been read to by Big Elm's principal and assistant principals, Donny Powell and Meighan Jones, as well as a local author name Diana Phishner Walker.
They are looking forward to many more mystery readers throughout the school year!

Mrs. Powell’s fourth grade classroom at Big Elm Elementary went outside to investigate dinosaur eggs. They used their dinosaur clues to practice inferencing and reading skills!

Mrs. Riddle's 3rd grade classroom at Big Elm used snacks to create multiplication arrays. The students loved this tasty, hands-on approach to learning!

↘️A Message from Healthy Grandfamilies ↙️
Ladies and Gentlemen,
After much checking around and discussion, we have decided to postpone the live Healthy Grandfamily Sessions until March.
Grandfamilies are helping their grandchildren adjust to being back in school, some are concerned about gathering due to the upswing in COVID cases and some have some other conflicts at this time.
We will continue to meet the information and training needs of the Grandfamilies by phone calls, face to face socially distanced home visits and the Grandparents as Parents Support Group.
In January, we will start recruiting and planning for our Sessions to begin in March.

Big Elm Elementary teachers and aides are excited to be back in school! Featured here: Traci Davis, Renee Powell, JC Caruso, Melissa Gifford, Kelli Clark, Darlene Akers.

The COVID-19 Reporting Numbers dashboard on the website contained out-of-date information and does not reflect current cases in our schools.
Harrison County Schools is not currently providing a COVID-19 Reporting Numbers dashboard.
We apologize for the confusion.
