Think PE is all about being an athlete? Not the case at Mountaineer Middle. The MMS PE classes have started their Archery unit this week. This unit was provided through an Archery in Schools grant from 2018. This is a great way to get students interested in something other than your traditional sports.

Mountaineer Middle School was the only middle school in Harrison County to be awarded the Purple Star Award for being a military-friendly school in the state of WV. Our efforts to support the success of all students and especially those military-connected students has been recognized by the WV Department of Education through its Common Ground Partnership.

At the Clarksburg Christmas Parade, 10 MMS students and three teachers handed out over 900 gifts to children at the parade. These students are part of the MMS Prayer Team who sponsored the gifts.

Around 100 MMS students stay after school to participate in various activities going on at school. From sports team practices to extra band practices to Project ISAAC to After School Learning HUB, these students have a reason to spend more time at school.
If your child could use some extra time at school to help with homework or being a part of a great group (Project ISAAC), please call the school and we can work it out for them.
MMS students are doing GREAT THINGS!

8th grade Science Teachers, Amy Hamrick, Angela Ward, and Jason Haynes at Mountaineer Middle have created a lab activity where the students will be discussing the scientific differences of some of the various apple varieties, and the process of peeling the apples, preparing them for apple sauce and eventually apple butter in crock pots.
Each science class will be responsible for finding a recipe to use, peeling/coring/slicing the apples, and combining ingredients to be cooked down.

Just a reminder that there is no school tomorrow. Parent Teacher Conferences start at 4 and end at 6 pm.

A quick reminder that there will be no school Monday, October 18th. Staff will still report for Professional Learning Day. Parent-Teacher Conferences are also Monday.

Students in Ms. Ward’s 8th grade science class tested their breakfast for the presence of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats with indicators. Students will learn about these indicators now to lay the foundation for high school classes.
