The GameChanger mission is to create school environments that actively prevent substance use before it begins. The program empowers students to influence one another positively, modeling and reinforcing healthy, substance-free lifestyles. Through peer leadership, skill development and community involvement, GameChanger fosters environments where healthy decision making is the norm and students feel capable and confident in making safe choices. Each GameChanger school has a dedicated coach who serves as a champion for prevention. Their role ensures that students not only hear prevention messages, but also see them demonstrated by peers and adults they respect.
At the elementary level, prevention begins with building strong social-emotional skills by identifying trusted adults, practicing healthy decision-making, and forming positive relationships. By observing positive role models and engaging in guided practice, students gain the skills and confidence to choose healthy behaviors.
