Local School Improvement Council and Safety Committee Meeting
Date: November 3, 2025
Time: 3–4 PM
The LSIC meeting was called to order by Dr. Petito, chairperson, at 3 PM on November 3, 2025. Nine members were in attendance. Lou Ann Nicholas volunteered to keep minutes for the meeting.
Members of the committee shared celebrations of academic progress, special activities, and school-wide programs. The school thanked the Nutter Fort Fire Department for the two weeks of presentations to our K–2 classrooms at NFE. In addition, the fire department hosted all of the Pre-K classrooms at the station. Dr. Cooper expressed how much the K–2 classes enjoyed the Mad Scientist Day experiments.
Safety Updates
- The ALICE training was completed by the staff in October.
- The new Pre-K playground equipment has been assembled and the ground is being leveled to finish the project.
- The new alert system is being installed and training will begin soon.
- The lighting issues in the front foyer and outside areas have been addressed.
- A work order has been placed to have the front steps painted yellow to assist students who have difficulty maneuvering them.
- The first holiday party occurred on October 31st. There were no safety concerns because of all the preliminary practices that were in place.
- Several fire drills have been practiced thus far this year, and we are able to completely empty the building in 2 minutes and 30 seconds. A code red drill was practiced in the classrooms and another in the cafeteria. All primary staff and students understand the protocol for safely locking down in the cafeteria.
PBIS Updates
- The first 9-week behavior reward trip was to the Robinson Grand Theater to attend the movie Monster’s Inc. The students and staff enjoyed the trip.
- K–2 students attended a 9-week award assembly where students were presented with certificates to honor their academic and attendance achievements.
- Future 9-week rewards:
- December: In-house reward with teachers and students participating in various teacher-led activities.
- March: Students will travel to Alley 304 for bowling.
- May: Students will travel to the Bridge for a day of activities.
- Teachers are still tracking behaviors on our LEAD tracking sheets. The committee will analyze reoccurring behaviors and create interventions to assist teachers and students.
- The PBIS committee will review the criteria to attend the 9-week reward trips to determine if adjustments are needed in the future.
Upcoming Events
- Veteran’s Day activities have been planned – first grade program, second grade readers.
- Many holiday activities are being planned for the month of December.
- Lion’s Club readers come every Tuesday to read to second grade.
Academic Updates
- Members of the committee were given a single sheet summary of the Strategic Plan goals.
- Members were updated on the progress of the Strategic Plan for 2026.
- HB letters have been sent to those students not meeting the cut scores on iReady math and reading from the BOY benchmark and will be sent again after the MOY benchmark is completed.
- WIN Time is going well in first and second grades.
- Interventions have begun with kindergarten.
Dr. Petito dismissed the meeting after all discussions were completed.
