Math: Remainder - the leftover number in a division problem.
Example: In the problem 16/5, 5 is the quotient (answer) is 3, but there is a remainder of 1.
ELA: Prologue - in a book, it is the short opening section before the main story. All books do not have a prologue, but when they do, it is to help provide support to the main story.
Example: In the classic book "Anne of Green Gables", the prologue introduces both the setting and characters.
ELA: Narrative writing - a piece of text that tells a story. This can be in the form of fiction or nonfiction. Narratives have characters in a setting who engage in a problem or event in a significant way.
Math: Prime Number - a number that only has two factors: 1 and itself.
Examples: 2, 3, 5,19. All of these numbers can only be divided by 1 and itself.
ELA: Genre - a type or style of art, literature, movie, or music. In literature, non-fiction and fiction are two types of genres that help reveal what kind of book it is.
Example: Fiction (not real) and Non-Fiction (real and based on facts) are two types of literary genres.
Math: Quadrilateral - a four-sided polygon.
Examples: Keep it simple - a rectangle and square are examples of quadrilaterals. They have four sides.
Other examples include: Parallelogram and rhombus.
