Strategic Plan update- first meeting is October 14
Staffing Update- typically no problem filling positions. Spanish position- Nuri Ruble- from Equador. Will start in October- final test- then will be finished with permit requirements. Next posting- fill position. English- Mr. Underwood- Ms. Tennant- East Fairmont HS- October 6th agenda. Chemistry- subbed out for the remainder of this school year. Chose not to repost Mrs. Stout as it was so subbed out by uncertified sub for rest of the year. Baking and pastries- Hailey Livesey- revitalize position. Scrubbed entire kitchen and classroom. Also just given $11,500 equipment upgrade. Everything must be commercial grade. Preparing students in program for restaurant/ culinary career. Comes to us from the Parkette. Financial secretary- subbed out again. Filled for short period of time- Amy Lill. Got bumped- person here 2 weeks- took another job. Now Janet Collins out of retirement. She does not have finance background- so Marcia Corder comes down weekly to take care of finances. Not ideal- but getting by with what have. Posted again this week.
Question- Chemistry subbed out remained of year- non- certified. Are there people here certified? How to resolve? Looking into this issue and will bring up to the new superintendent at the next meeting.

It has been suggested that we need to do a better job monitoring grades through homerooms and reviewing PEP plans/ courses students still need to graduate.

We will continue to monitor to ensure we get as many seniors as possible across the finish line as possible.
As far as disciplinary measures- will continue to follow county policy when students referred to office. Dictated by policy and behavioral habits of our students. Represents 95% of our students come here daily and do what they do- and when they don’t- we hold them accountable.
SAT
In English, we were ranked 49th with 49.4% proficiency. We ranked 3rd in the county.
In Math, we were ranked 65th with a 14.9% proficiency. We ranked 4th in the county.
In Science, we ranked 47th with 20.7% proficiency. We ranked 3rd in the county. The science proficiency is calculated by the state department using random questions related to science as there is no actual science section on the SAT.
2025 English mean score was 440. Math was 396.
PSAT
2025 PSAT 10: English mean score was 437. Math was 417.
2025 PSAT 8/9: English mean score was 432. Math was 390.

2024- 19 tests taken. 5 scored a 1, 7 scored a 2, 6 scored a 3, 1 scored a 4 and 0 scored a 5

AP program has always been fantastic. This year, 2 AP classes were scheduled in the fall, rather than in the spring.
IV. Open Forum for Questions/Answers
Is there potential to leverage state takeover to help balance the inequity among the schools?
When is the virtual lab going to be opened back up? Lincoln is using their librarian for virtual learning. Can we get it in the spring? How do we go about getting this done? Denying kids academic offerings to get to graduate? Is there a reason why- what policy- are they quoting to keep the lab from opening?
What have other counties followed in terms of policy- re- Lewis County- for virtual (Policy 2205)?
The LSIC committee feels that SHHS has been targeted by central office due to the cuts in positions, cuts in programs, and inability to graduate students with the given in- house classes (ex- students who took French I cannot take French II- unless they take it virtually on their own time- or have 3/4 Ag classes- or 3/4 baking and pastries classes (this position is shared with SHMS) and the additional course cannot get scheduled. The depletion of our elective courses- 18 in total- have been lost from this school. There are also concerns about putting kids in Financial Algebra as a final math class without regard for what is needed for graduation and admission to D-2 colleges. There are also concerns about teaching multiple classes in the same classroom during a single block- not scheduled as individual blocks- forcing a teacher to split a 90-minute block among the different courses scheduled simultaneously. Student support has also significantly dwindled as class size continues to grow. Further concerns relate to special education compliance.
