At-Large Members – Mrs. Skidmore is struggling to find at-large members this year (they cannot be employed at the school or have students attending the school). Several of the community members we work with as a school have declined to attend because of the afterschool nature of the meetings. Anyone with suggestions on at-large members please email Mrs. Skidmore as we will continue to find at-large members who are able to attend meetings until the positions are filled.
South Harrison Middle LSIC Meeting Procedures
Handout of the previously approved procedures. No one noted any changes that need to be approved for the new year.
Election of Chairperson & Vice Chairperson
Mrs. Skidmore opened the floor for nominations. Mr. Messenger nominated Mrs. Sutton. Mrs. Sutton nominated Mr. Messenger. Mr. Messenger nominated Mr. Cook. Mr. Messenger was unanimously elected chairperson and Mrs. Sutton and Mr. Cook both agreed to assist.
WVDE LSIC Member Training
Mrs. Skidmore showed the WVDE video training on LSIC and shared that the policies referenced in the training are in the folder each person received. Mrs. Skidmore asked if anyone had any questions. The only question was if all schools really do have these meetings – they are supposed to do this exact same process at all elementary, middle, and high schools in the state.
Set Future Meeting Dates
The Stakeholder meeting will be held October 13 at 5:00 (this is at the end of Parent Teacher Conferences). The third nine weeks meeting will be on February 23, and the fourth nine weeks meeting will be held on April 13. All meetings will be at 5:00. The group may choose to meet more frequently and will announce any additional meetings in advance.
Open Floor for Questions
Question: Is it a requirement to take school buses to athletic events?
Answer: No, it is possible for parents/volunteer drivers to drive and sometimes vans are rented to make it to games when the departure time is too early. School buses are easiest for coaches to coordinate as we need to make sure that all athletes are able to get to the events.
