4/1/2025 LSIC Meeting
Present: Hannah Francis, Lauren Moore, Heather Holbert, Mark Jones, Elisabet Kirk, Bethany Kulchock, Staci Swiger, Jessica Wagner, Aaron Horne, Amanda Morrow, Marteney Hanson
The meeting was called to order at 14:50.
The first order of business was to approve the minutes from the February 4th meeting. The motion was made to approve the minutes by ______. The motion was seconded by _____. All approved, no one opposed, the motion carried.
Next, the Principal’s Report was given by Principal Heather Holbert. The LSIC was updated on the Donation Fundraiser, which started Monday, March 31, 2025 and will run for two weeks, ending on Friday, April 11, 2025. No items will be sold, no email addresses will be collected for free prizes – this fundraiser is truly DONATIONS ONLY. All monies raised during this fundraiser will be used solely for the purposes established in the fundraiser marketing, allowing for true transparency. The parameters set were the Backpack Program, student PBIS Rewards, LSIC improvement initiatives, and incentives.
The next topic was the status of the playground space behind the school. The pouring of concrete for a pad is currently on hold, but there are hopes to have the area evaluated for concrete over the summer. LSIC will set goals for the playground area when we reconvene in the fall.
Finally, the growth in the city of Bridgeport, particularly the Johnson district, was discussed at length. There are 100 new apartments being constructed currently in Charles Pointe. These elementary aged children will all attend JES. Johnson Elementary School has had a staggering thirty-three percent increase in student enrollment over the last seven years. Bridgeport continues to grow and most of the communities being added are districted for Johnson. An increase in student population directly impacts the traffic and parking situations DAILY. Starting in the fall, the front loop (by the flag pole) will be closed to all traffic. This is for the safety of the students. JES administration, as well as LSIC, would also like to approach the city and ask for a second paid crossing guard to assist Mr. Jack Waggamon. With the high school and middle school traffic coinciding with the JES traffic, there is a need for additional assistance directing the flow of cars for the safety of our students.
We would also like to put together an informal survey to parents/caregivers regarding AM/PM school buses. Taking advantage of school transportation would greatly decrease the congestion in the parking lot before and after school each day. We would love to know what is holding parents/caregivers back from having their students ride the bus.
A motion was made to adjourn the meeting by Staci Swiger. The motion was seconded by Bethany Kulchock. All approved, none apposed – the motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 15:51 (3:51pm).
