As we move through the semester, it’s a great time to check in—not just on grades, but on well-being. Middle school can be exciting, challenging, and sometimes overwhelming. Remember, it’s okay to ask for help.
This month, we are focusing on self-awareness and perseverance. When something feels difficult:
Pause and take a few deep breaths.
Break big tasks into smaller, manageable steps.
Remind yourself of a time you overcame a challenge before.
Students are encouraged to talk with a trusted adult—whether that’s a teacher, parent, or counselor—if they are feeling stressed or unsure. Seeking support is a sign of strength.
Families can support this work at home by:
Asking open-ended questions like, “What was one high point and one challenge from your day?”
Encouraging healthy routines: sleep, nutrition, and screen balance.
Celebrating effort, not just outcomes.
Our goal is to ensure every student feels seen, supported, and capable of success—both academically and personally. As always, the counseling office is here to help!

Hello Lincoln Middle School Families,
As we move further into the semester, this is a great time to pause and check in — not just academically, but emotionally. Middle school can bring big feelings, growing responsibilities, and changing friendships. Our goal is to help students build the skills they need to navigate it all with confidence.
This month, we are focusing on self-management and healthy coping strategies. We are talking with students about:
Managing stress in positive ways
Organizing schoolwork and planning ahead
Handling peer conflict respectfully
Knowing when and how to ask for help
You can support this work at home by:
Asking open-ended questions like, “What was the best part of your day?” or “What challenged you today?”
Encouraging routines for homework and bedtime
Reminding your child that mistakes are part of learning and growth.
If your child ever needs additional support, please know our counseling office is always here to help. Whether it’s academic planning, friendship concerns, or just someone to talk to, we are honored to support our students and families.
Let’s continue working together to help our students grow not only as learners, but as kind, resilient young people.
Have a wonderful week!
Mr. Hawk
Counselor

February is a month that reminds us of the importance of kindness, connection, and caring for one another. With winter weather and schedule changes behind us, this is a great time to check in with students about how they are feeling—both academically and emotionally.
Our counselors continue to work with students on goal-setting, managing stress, and building positive relationships. As winter assessments wrap up, we encourage families to talk with their child about their strengths, areas for growth, and personal goals for the spring.
Random Acts of Kindness Day on February 17 is a perfect opportunity to reinforce empathy and compassion at home and at school. A kind word, a helping hand, or a simple thank-you can go a long way in brightening someone’s day.
Please remember that our counseling team is always here to support students and families. If you have questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out.
𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟏𝟔, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 was first planned as an 𝐎𝐒 𝐃𝐚𝐲, but that has changed.
✅ 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟏𝟔, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 is now a 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲.
🏫 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 will attend school as usual.
Please mark your calendar and plan ahead!

After a week of remote learning and time away from our regular routines, it’s normal for students to feel a mix of emotions as we return to school. Some may feel excited to be back, while others might feel tired, anxious, or a little overwhelmed—and that’s okay.
We encourage students to give themselves grace as they settle back into their schedules. Getting enough rest, staying organized, and asking for help when needed can make the transition smoother. Teachers and staff are here to support students academically and emotionally.
Please remember that our counseling team is always available. If your child is feeling stressed, having trouble readjusting, or just needs someone to talk to, we are here to help. Together, we can support students as they reconnect, refocus, and move forward with confidence.
As always, thank you for partnering with us to support the whole child.

As we move through the winter months, it’s normal for students to feel a little more tired, stressed, or unmotivated. Shorter days and colder weather can make it harder to stay focused and positive. We encourage students to take care of themselves by getting enough rest, staying active, and talking to an adult when they’re feeling overwhelmed.
Families can support students by helping them keep a consistent routine, especially on Remote Learning Days, and by checking in regularly about school, friendships, and stress levels. Remember, our counseling team is always here to support students—academically, socially, and emotionally.
Together, we can help our students stay healthy, confident, and ready to learn!
Dear Families,
As we move through the winter months, it is important to take a moment to check in on our students’ emotional well-being. This time of year can be challenging for some due to shorter days, colder weather, and less time spent outdoors.
You may hear the term Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), which is a type of depression that can occur during certain seasons—most often in winter. While not every student who feels tired or unmotivated has SAD, some common signs include:
Low energy or fatigue
*Changes in mood or irritability
*Difficulty concentrating
*Wanting to sleep more or withdraw from activities they usually enjoy
There are simple ways families can help support students during this season:
*Encourage regular sleep routines
*Make time for physical activity and outdoor light when possible
*Keep students connected to friends, activities, and routines
*Talk openly about how they are feeling and let them know it’s okay to ask for help
Please remember that our school counseling team is always available to support students. If you notice ongoing changes in your child’s mood, behavior, or motivation, don’t hesitate to reach out to us so we can work together to provide support.
Winter can be a tough season, but with awareness, connection, and support, we can help our students stay healthy, positive, and successful.
Warm regards,
Brian Hawk

Honoring Veterans Through Gratitude and Service
As we recognize Veterans Day this week, it’s a wonderful opportunity to talk with our students about gratitude, courage, and service. Veterans remind us what it means to give of ourselves for the good of others—a lesson that applies to all of us, no matter our age.
Encourage your child to think about ways they can “serve” others—whether by helping a classmate, thanking a teacher, or showing kindness at home. Small acts of gratitude can make a big difference!
Let’s use this week to celebrate kindness, respect, and appreciation for those who make our community strong.
Students don't forget to stop by the Counselor's Quick Stop in the front hallway for all of your hygiene needs or to pick up a backpack, pencil or notebook.
