Two speech bubbles with the words “Parent Tips.”

Strong attendance habits don’t happen by accident—they are built at home. Here are some practical ways families can help:

  • Establish a routine. A consistent bedtime and a calm morning routine help ensure your child is on time and ready to learn. Pack backpacks and lay out clothes the night before.

  • Avoid scheduling appointments and trips during school hours. Please try to schedule all non-urgent appointments and family vacations outside of school days.

  • Don’t let your child stay home for minor issues. If your child complains of a stomachache or headache, consider whether it might be anxiety about school. If the issue is minor, it is often best to send them in. Contact the school nurse if you are unsure.

  • Have a backup plan. What happens if your morning plans fall through? Create a list of trusted family members, neighbors, or other parents you can call on to help with transportation.

  • Communicate with the school. If your child is struggling with anxiety or other issues that make them reluctant to attend, please talk to their teacher or the school counselor. We are here to help.
