LSIC Meeting – 04/09/25/ (2:15 p.m.) 

Members Present:  Jessica Ashcraft, Jo Ellen Crowley, Curtis Edwards, Kim Holbert, Dayona Smith, Ashley Satterfield, Jordan Scarbrough, and Melanie Tillman 

New Business: 

  L.S.I.C. Chairman, Curtis Edwards discussed a future project to create an “activities”  

area behind the school building by adding additional picnic tables for student use as well as developing  a walking trail.   

 Media Update – Principal Satterfield informed the group about a social media “push” on the  

Harrison County Schools Facebook page where students can follow a link to Josten’s to order items  for graduation.  There is also a link provided for senior pictures.  

Graduation Update – UHS graduation is scheduled for 05/27/25 at Liberty High School.  According to Principal Satterfield there are 108 students eligible for graduation ytd.  Caps, tassels, and diplomas  have been ordered.   The UHS Work Program has obtained a “heat press” which will be used to  make T-shirts for the graduating seniors.  The Phoenix Farewell for seniors is scheduled for Friday, May 9, 2025.  Seniors will be treated to a pizza party by the staff which will include cupcakes made by  Evolution High School Teacher, Belinda Vest. 

 Spring Fling – Will be held Friday, May 2, 2025, for this spring’s cultural enrichment activity.  Community Member, Jo Ellen Crowley, will once again sponsor frozen treats from Tim Lefevre’s  Dairy Queen.  Kettle corn will be available to the students, as well.  Some activities will include a rock climbing wall, face painting, sand art, corn-hole and music.  Students will be free to participate In 30 minute intervals beginning after lunch.  Students will receive a free water bottle with a UHS  Decal as a souvenir. 

 Annual L.S.I.C. Discipline Review – Principal Satterfield gave a thorough report of UHS 2024-2025’s Discipline Data including:  Preventive Discipline Programs/Disciplinary Measures Available/Disciplinary Measures Utilized/Emergency Communications Systems/Student Involvement Programs. After the report was given, Mrs. Satterfield read the notice of Fair and Consistent Discipline. A vote  Was taken as to whether or not we believe the school discipline is or is not enforced in a fair and  consistent manner.  The L.S.I.C. members made a unanimous vote agreeing that discipline is enforced in a fair and consistent manner.  An audible vote of “Yes” by each member was then recorded to  confirm the vote.
