It's Almost Showtime

Good morning, Johnson! That’s how close it is getting…the school texts have started.

If you are receiving this message, your child is currently on our official roster, whether that be at our Johnson Elementary campus or our off-site Pre-K at Cubby’s.

Cubby’s Pre-K parents, do not worry.  I will give Jennifer information about what you can do to stop receiving these Johnson-based texts.  Cubby’s is considered our Pre-K, which does not allow us to simply turn you off.

If you are receiving this text and your child will not be returning to Johnson this school year, please give us a call as soon as possible. Either we are waiting for another school to pick you up, or we have not received enough information to officially move you. Kelly will help. Call 304-326-7109.

We have several things to inform you of as school season gets into full swing:

First, our staff returns on Monday, August 11.  We have lots of meetings and trainings sprinkled throughout the week, and it is a very busy time. But if you need something from your teacher and it cannot wait for Open House, you can call and leave them a message. They will return your call as soon as possible.

Next, we want to mention that Harrison County Schools is hosting Family Day at the mall this Saturday from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM. They will have lots of educational booths and information about our district and its support agencies. The Bridgeport schools will have a table, with Johnson specifically represented from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM. Stop by to say “hi” if you are there.

Our first Johnson event of the school year is Sunday, August 10!  Our amazing PTA is sponsoring a Back-to-School Pool Party at the Bridgeport City Pool from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM.  The event is free for Johnson students and their families and is a great way to build excitement for the year ahead.

Open House will be held from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM on Thursday, August 14.  There is no set program or schedule.  You can come at any time during that window.  Entrance will be through the gym doors.  You can report directly to your homeroom to meet the teacher.  If you are new and do not know your way around, anyone wearing a badge or sitting at an information table can help you.  Warning, Open House can be ALOT, especially for the youngest students.  Pre-K and K will have additional opportunities for a less chaotic experience.

Finally, for 1st-5th grade parents/guardians (and all upper grades as well), there is a recent change that is still in its working phase.  All Harrison County Schools are switching grading platforms.  Live Grades will no longer be used.  The new system is embedded within our official state-level student information program, and 30 additional counties will be going through the same transition with us.  Please note that Johnson is not in charge of this system.  There will be questions and issues; however, we will work through them or guide you as best we can.  We will send home any information as it is received, but there will be a delay in access at the start of the year.

If you need anything, please do not hesitate to ask.  The Harrison County Schools' website (https://www.harcoboe.net/) is a wonderful resource, as is the Johnson Elementary School page (https://www.harcoboe.net/o/jes).  Bus schedules, lunch menus, and staff directories are included.  We also have an active Facebook page - Johnson Elementary School - Bridgeport, WV, where we post information, recognize students and staff, and chronicle our day-to-day activities.

Super excited to get rolling soon!
