There are four required courses.
PK-3 Science of Reading
PK-3 Numeracy
PK-3 Child Development
PK-3 Special Needs Inclusion
All courses are now on-demand and self-paced.
You must take at least one each year to renew but are welcome to finish them as quickly as possible in order to go permanent.
There is no fee for these courses.
There is no observation or practicum component for these courses.
If you are having trouble locating your courses go to Dashboard (instructure.com).
If you have not submitted an application, you will need to:
Fill out a Form 41
Pay your $35 fee for the processing of your application.
Submit all paperwork (including Form 7, legal disclosures, transcripts, and completion certificates for all courses completed) to Rachel Wilson for verification and submission.
We are unable to accept Canvas course lists as documentation.
Completion certificates are required.
If you have submitted an application:
You can go to wveis.k12.wv.us/certcheck and check your status.
If you have completed your background check and made payment you are most likely pending processing.
If we require anything further, we will reach out when your application comes up in the queue.
Once your application is processed you will receive an email with your next steps.
Once your application has been received by the WVDE:
You will receive an email to the address you entered on your application with instructions on how to complete your background check.
There is a $47.25 fee for the background check.
The background check must be completed by anyone who has not previously held a license through the WVDE.
At that point you can reference the information above.
If you have a valid Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or Department of Labor Certificate:
You will still need to take the PK-3 Science of Reading and PK-3 Numeracy courses in order to go permanent.
If you were already permanent before 7/1/23, remain in a Pre-k or K class, and want to add Grades 1-3 to your certification:
Use this link PK-3 (Paraprofessional/ECCAT/Aide) (instructure.com)
to register for the PK-3 Science of Reading and PK-3 Numeracy courses.
Fill out Form 41 upon completion of courses.
Pay $35 fee for the processing of your application.

You will have to pay a $35 application renewal fee every year until a permanent certificate is achieved.
