Project AIM High

Achieving Instructional Milestones is provided June 21 through July 20, 2023, to students in grades K-5 at all elementary schools, Monday through Thursday, 8 AM to Noon (excluding July 4th). Project AIM will provide fun, challenging, and innovative intervention opportunities that focus on core instruction in reading and math. The program’s intent is to keep children learning and growing during the summer months. In addition to targeted math and reading interventions, an itinerant counselor will provide social emotional supports for students to help manage emotions, set and achieve personal goals, and build positive relationships. Breakfast and lunch would be provided. Transportation would be provided. There is a possibility, through a collaboration with Harrison County Parks and Recreation, that afternoon activities would be added to make this a full day program.

Energy Express

Energy Express is provided through West Virginia University Extension Service to rural and low-income communities it will run June 21 through July 29th, 2023. Energy Express is open to students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 through application to Harrison County Parks and Recreation. The program is offered from the end of June until the end of July. The county’s Reading Support Teachers work with students and provided professional development to Energy Express staff, who are contracted through Parks and Recreation. Art, drama and vocabulary activities are provided, as well as a daily read aloud by volunteers and mentors to enhance comprehension and fluency and to engage students in the joy of reading. Students receive breakfast and lunch. Transportation is provided. There is a possibility, through a collaboration with Harrison County Parks and Recreation, that afternoon activities would be added to make this a full day program.
