Math and Reading Interventions are targeted instructional programs that provide supplemental, specialized support to students struggling to meet grade-level benchmarks in these subjects. They involve identifying a student's specific skill deficits, such as Phonemic Awareness or Number Sense, and then delivering focused instruction using specific strategies to address those needs. The goal is to accelerate a student's progress and bring their skills up to par with their peers.

Key Components

  • Diagnostic Assessment: Interventions begin with a diagnostic to pinpoint the exact foundational skills a student is missing, ensuring instruction starts at their correct skill level.

  • Targeted Instruction: The instruction is precise and focused, breaking down complex skills into smaller, manageable steps.

  • Reading Intervention: Addresses areas like phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension.

  • Math Intervention:  Focuses on areas like number sense, fluency, problem-solving, fractions, and algebraic reasoning.

  • Supplement to Core Instruction: Intervention programs run in addition to, not instead of, the regular classroom curriculum, providing the extra support needed to master essential skills.

  • Monitoring and Adjustment: Student progress is continuously monitored, and the intervention is adjusted based on their performance and growth.
