Parent Guide: HCS Emergency Call and Text System

As we move into winter weather, we want to make sure every family knows how our emergency call system works. Snow days, delays, and other alerts can come up fast, and we want you to feel informed and ready.

Below is a simple FAQ that answers the most common questions we get each year about school messages, contact information, and how to stay updated.

If you ever have questions, please reach out to your school or our district office. We’re here to help.

NOTE: Please allow 24 hours for any changes to take effect.

Q: Why am I not getting messages?

The most common reason is that we don’t have your current phone number or email. This is the number one issue we see every winter.

There can be other clerical problems, like a missing digit or an old number still listed, but the solution is the same:
Please contact your child’s school and ask them to check or update your contact information.

Q: Can I sign up to get messages?

No. There isn’t a sign-up form like you would see for normal mailing lists. Our system uses the contact information for the legal guardians of current students and active staff members.
This information comes straight from our student and staff records.

If you are not in one of those groups, you will not receive calls or texts. But you can still stay informed.

We post all emergency alerts on our district app!

Download the app to get push notifications sent right to your phone.

Q: Why am I getting these messages? I don’t have any kids in school!

Your phone number is in our system, usually because it once belonged to a parent or staff member. Phone numbers get recycled by carriers, so numbers can get reused.

Contact our district office and ask for the communications specialist.

We will remove your number from the system and update the numbers for our families.

Thank you for taking the time to review this information. Our goal is to keep every family safe, informed, and connected, especially during winter weather. If you ever need help or have questions about alerts, please reach out. We are always glad to assist.
