π™‹π™–π™§π™šπ™£π™© 𝙂π™ͺπ™žπ™™π™š: Understanding the Online Absence Excuse Form

Harrison County Schools offers an online absence excuse form to make it easier for families to submit excuse notes to their child’s school.

When you submit the online absence excuse form, your submission is sent to the school's office. This gives the school a record that the excuse was sent.

However, submitting the form does not automatically excuse the absence.

The school must still review the excuse and update the student’s attendance record.

Why You May Still Receive an Attendance Call

Attendance calls go out to all students marked absent in any period on a school day, whether the absence is listed as excused or unexcused.

If your child was absent, you should expect to receive an attendance call and text message.

This does not mean the form was lost or that the excuse was denied. It only means your child was marked absent for the day.

What Happens After You Submit the Form

After the form is submitted:

  • The school receives a record of the submission.

  • School staff review the excuse.

  • The attendance record is updated in WVEIS.

Because the district keeps a running record of form submissions, the school can go back, review the excuse, and correct the attendance record when needed.

We also encourage families to download and print a copy of each submission for their own records. Keeping a copy can be helpful if you need to follow up with the school office later.

What Should I Do If the Absence Still Looks Wrong?

If you submitted the form and, after a few days, the absence still appears incorrect, please contact your student's school office.

The school can check the form submission and make any needed updates to the attendance record.

Quick Reminder

Submitting the form sends your excuse, but the school must still review it before the absence is officially updated. Families are encouraged to keep a copy of each submission for their records.
