Comprehensive School Realignment — Item 8.A

The Board will consider moving forward with an Educational Facilities Plan amendment and beginning a process that could lead to the closure of Salem Elementary School and Lost Creek Elementary School.

The proposal calls for closure impact statements and closure hearings for Salem Elementary and Lost Creek Elementary. Receiving school hearings would also be held for Mountaineer Elementary and West Milford Elementary.

Under the proposal, Lost Creek Elementary would merge into West Milford Elementary, and Salem Elementary would merge into Mountaineer Elementary.

The item before the Board does not approve the closures. After impact statements are reviewed and public hearings are completed, the Board would vote on the proposed closure actions. If approved by the local Board, the closures would then go to the State Board of Education for consideration.

If approved by both boards, the proposed closures would take effect for the 2027-28 school year.

900-Hour Calendar Review — Item 5.A

The Superintendent's Update includes a review of “SB 890 - 900 hours calendar,” along with department updates. The agenda states that the update is for Board and Superintendent discussion and that no action will be taken.

Open Enrollment and Transfers — Item 7.C

The consent agenda includes approvals and denials for resident and non-resident student transfers. The agenda states that HB 2596 requires these transfers to be approved or denied by the county board and reported annually to the State Department of Education.

The agenda includes action on personnel matters for 200+ day employment and two employee termination items under State Superintendent Approved Items.
