CLARKSBURG - Harrison County students and alumni were honored through the Harrison County Student Achievement Program, which recognizes students from public and private high schools in Harrison County.
The 2025 Davis-Jackson Alumni Award Honoree was Professor Emeritus Philip W. Carter Jr., MSW. A longtime educator and social justice advocate, Mr. Carter grew up in Clarksburg and was among the students who integrated Washington Irving High School after the closing of Kelly Miller High School in 1956. He went on to graduate from Marshall University and earn a master’s degree in social work from the University of Pittsburgh. Carter became a longtime educator, civil rights leader, and social justice advocate, serving more than 50 years in higher education, including 43 years at Marshall University.

Robert C. Byrd High School students recognized were Katelyn Braden, Samantha Clark, Keara Courtney, Saverio Destito, Owen Dodd, Wade Lane, Taylor Leon, Nate Linder, Madelyn McGill, Armondo Montero, Branner Rock, Adair Rollins, Charlee Scheuvront, Ava Scolapio, Ethan Smith, Jalyn Smith, Jayden Strauss, Jorja Wagoner, and Dillon Wiseman. Jamie Looker is the principal. Roger Wilkinson, Kimberly Miller, Kyra Burnett, and Jeff Rush are counselors.
Bridgeport High School students recognized were Bethany Archer-Lewis, Conner Benson, Katherine Blackwood, Addyson Buffington, Abigail Daugherty, Maria Day, James Hadjis, Tenley Holler, Payton Janssen, Jacob Keener, Lucy Keough, Mackenzie Kimball, Nhya Knepper, McKenna Knotts, Giulianna Lively, Jalin McKinney, Kadence Moore, Chloe Mouser, Phillip Nguyen, Zachary Nicholson, William Northey, Tucker Pomeroy, Leah Pugh, Stella Rubi, Victoria Singzon, Lee Sondericker, Breanna Starkey, Paiton Thompson, Emma Ude, Sadie Vass, Addison Veigel, and Presley Veltri. Renee Mathews is the principal. Michael Lemley and Kristina Robinson are counselors.
Lincoln High School students recognized were Sadie Adams, Chesnea Boyles, Avery Cumberledge, Gianna Fragman, Cade Heflin, Maxwell Myers, Cade Riley, Annika Shuman, Lillyan Toth, and Samuel Waybright. David Decker is the principal. Jessica Freeman and Katie Yeager are counselors.
Notre Dame High School students recognized were Piper Fryer, John Jordan, Caroline Lewis, Katharine Moodispaw, Angelina Policano, Lexi Shaffer, and Jack Stalnaker. Sister Maria Rukwishuro is the principal. Rebecca Torchia is the counselor.
South Harrison High School students recognized were Abby Freeze and Elena Medina. Ron Kenner is the principal. Raelynn Michael is the counselor.
Heritage Christian School students recognized were Alaina Bump, Mia Golden, Leela Huffman, and Hailey Piercy. Mr. Luzier is the principal. Mrs. Nolan is the counselor.
About The Harrison County Student Achievement Program
The purpose of the Harrison County Student Achievement Program is to recognize achievement of students in Harrison County's public & private high schools and to recognize Harrison County alumni who have excelled professionally. The intent is to inspire and motivate students to achieve their maximum lifetime potential. The Harrison County Student Achievement Program was formed in 1992 and, including scholarships presented this evening, has provided over half a million dollars in scholarships to over 1,000 students, who exemplify the philosophy of the Harrison County Student Achievement Program.
