Bake together to practice counting, measuring, and basic fractions.
Look for shapes and symmetry around the house or during walks.
Avoid strict drilling and choose fun puzzles or games that include math concepts naturally

Read together for 15 minutes daily and take turns reading lines or pages.
Focus on letter sounds instead of just reciting the alphabet song.
Clap out syllables in spoken words to build phonemic awareness and sound recognition.
Ask simple questions about the story, such as what might happen next or why a character felt a certain way
Reminder: Schools will be closed on Monday in observance of Labor Day. Enjoy the long weekend, and we'll see everyone back on Tuesday!
Robert C. Byrd High School will have a 3-hour early dismissal on Friday, September 11, 2026.
This early dismissal is necessary to allow construction crews to safely install steel beams as part of the ongoing construction of the new cafeteria addition. The adjusted dismissal time will help ensure the safety of our students, staff, and construction personnel while this important work is completed.
Please note that this 3-hour early dismissal applies only to Robert C. Byrd High School. All other schools will operate on their regularly scheduled dismissal times.

At middle school sporting events, elementary students must be accompanied by an adult.
At high school sporting events, both middle and elementary students must be accompanied by an adult.
Thanks to the Levy, HCS students still get free admission to all regular-season Harrison County events.
